Transverse histological view of a thoracic vertebra from an embryonic chick, stained to show cartilage (blue) and collagen (red/ pink). Spinal ligaments are stained dark red positioned adjacent to muscle, symmetrically connecting rib cartilage to vertebral processes. This approach provides opportunity to examine the maturation of spinal tissues during development. |
